Here you can only order tickets for our regular excursions.
There are excursions in the morning, afternoon, and evening at several fixed times between April 1 and September 30. In addition, extra excursions are offered during school holiday periods.
There are two starting points for the excursions. The agenda clearly indicates where each excursion begins.
- Camping De Bosrand, Moerslag 4, 6265 NC Sint Geertruid
- The large free parking at Rijksweg 184, 6247 AN Rijckholt
The guide will meet you at the starting point. Please arrive about fifteen minutes before the excursion begins. The excursion lasts 2.5 hours.
The excursion consists of a walk from the starting point to the flint mine and back. From Rijckholt the walk is about 3 km; from Camping De Bosrand it is just over 4 km. The route leads over field and forest paths, followed by an underground visit to the mine, and finally the walk back. Due to the elevation changes and uneven terrain, this excursion is not suitable for people with limited mobility.
The temperature in the mine is a cool 11°C. Warm clothing and sturdy walking shoes are recommended, even in summer. There is sufficient lighting in the mine, and no climbing or crawling is required. The excursion is suitable for all ages, with special attention for children. Dogs are allowed if kept on a leash.
During the underground visit you can see the prehistoric galleries, a shaft used by prehistoric people to access the mine, tools used by the miners, how flint was formed, how the mine was excavated in the 1960s, and much more. More information on these topics can be found via the main menu above.
